Blackthorne Inn

Blackthorne Inn was originally known as Greystone House, this property was the site of considerable fighting during the Civil war then in 1775 Lord Fairfax deeded the land to George Washington for survey work. When the former owners purchased the property in 1970, the front door still bore scars where Yankee soldiers had kicked it in.
Nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Blue Ridge Mountains, Blackthorne Inn is ideally located on 45 spectacular acres of sweeping lawns, brilliant gardens, rolling meadows and lush woodlands. The original section of this extraordinary stone Inn dates back to 1763 and the charm and ambience of this historic manor is reminiscent of the genteel lifestyle of colonial days.

Over the years, it has been exquisitely updated and expanded with meticulous attention to preserving its historical integrity. Original stone fireplaces warm the dining rooms and pubs, and gleaming wood floors and hand hewn beams reflect the bygone days of yesteryear. Flagstone terraces provide an idyllic setting for outdoor dining, while walls of windows in the Dining Room and Pavilion overlook the picturesque spring fed pond and gazebo.

Perfect for a lovely weekend getaway, Blackthorne Inn is also perfect for a fabulous private party, or spectacular weddings or events. This property boasts two separate pubs, turn of the century dining rooms, and a marvelous pavilion (seating 120 guests) with walls of windows and decks overlooking the breathtaking views of the manicured grounds. A stunning tent can provide expanded capacity, as up to 2000 guests are permitted. Four log cabins and a converted stable include 13 private guest suites, most all with whirlpool tubs, cozy sitting areas & fireplaces. Each room includes a deck or terrace to relax and enjoy the tranquil setting.

The acreage to the rear of the property includes a fenced paddock and run in shed to accommodate guests with horses. The trails and paths through the woods are wonderful for hiking and nature walks.

Ideally located just outside the quaint village of Upperville, in the heart of the fabled Virginia “Hunt Country” the Blackthorne Inn is within easy access of the nation’s capital and the Dulles International Airport. The historic village of Middleburg is just 12 minutes away, with its fine boutique shops, coffee houses, spa & fine restaurants.
