World Renowned Country Inn Located in Virginia: L’Auberge Provençale

Quaint Country Inns are quite popular in Virginia and all have their own charm. But did you know that one of the nation’s most acclaimed Country Inn is right in our back yard? Located in White Post, VA and close to Washington D.C,   L’Auberge Provençale is styled to be similar to those quintessential French Country Inns and was recently voted by USA Today as one of 7 irresistible country retreats in the world. Originally owned by Lord Fairfax of Greenway Court where young surveyors George and Charles Washington came to survey the holdings for this Lord. Later this 880 acre land was given to a sheep farmer, Samuel Bell where he built the original manor house in 1753. Eventually, George Washington and Fielding Lewis (who married George Washington’s Sister) were made trustees of this estate.

This historic and 5 star French luxury retreat offers 11 immaculate rooms and villa a few miles from the main residence with one master bedroom and two additional suites. Each room has their own special feature such as aromatherapy steam showers, oversized Jacuzzi tub, pastoral/mountain views, private entrance to room, faux walls, Provençale fabrics and antiques specifically picked for each guest room.  A gourmet breakfast will await you each morning that starts with homemade granola, fresh local fruit, freshly baked croissants or pastries, and a Café au Lait. Then the main course varies from Cherry Crepe with Minted Maple Syrup, Apple Wood Smoked Bacon or a Roasted Duck Breast with Herb Demi and Egg Tower.

L’Auberge Provençale has made a name for itself not only with their high-end luxury amenities but also a world renowned 4 diamond French restaurant on site. The restaurant, La Table Provençale features ingredients from local farms, their own garden and constantly foraging for fresh wild products to show case in their menu. Delectable dishes currently on their Chef’s tasting menu include:

  • Smoked Mackerel

  • Sweet Potato with Pate a choux Gnocchi
  • Halibut
  • Langoustine with Frisee Salad
